CFL Patron Aurora Casserly at Storytime
You
are cordially invited to a reception for our new director Emily Owen on Monday,
November 25th from 4-6pm. Join us as we warmly welcome Emily to the staff of the
Canton Free Library. Emily is looking forward to an evening of conversation
with our patrons. We’ve enjoyed working with Emily for the past month, and
we’re happy to have her at the helm of the CFL.
While
you are in our lovely library, gather some books to curl up with on these cold
November days. It’s been a great season
for newly-released books. Our to-read lists just keep growing and make us wish
we had more time to read!
One
title that caught the eye of the Jane Austen fans on staff is Longbourn by Jo Baker. In this Regency
novel, Baker imagines what life was like for the servants in Pride and Prejudice, focusing on an
orphaned housemaid named Sarah. While Lizzie Bennett and her sisters are
attending balls, Sarah is mending their petticoats and changing their chamber pots.
However, there is just as much complicated romance and drama in the servants’
quarters as there is in the Bennett family.
For
teen gamers, we have The Eye of Minds
by James Dashner, the author of the New York Times bestselling Maze Runner series. In The Eye of Minds, the government seeks
out a hardcore gamer named Michael to track down a hacker holding players
hostage in VirtNet. The alternate reality of VirtNet becomes more than a
harmless game when the mysterious hacker causes the hostages to go brain-dead.
Follow Michael into a twisted technological world in the first book of The Mortality Doctrine series.
Ol’Mama Squirrel by David Ezra Stein
makes a great bedtime story to read aloud to your little ones. Mama Squirrel is
one tough mama when it comes to protecting her babies from predators. But has
she met her match when a grizzly bear threatens the family tree? Find out if
Mama Squirrel can outwit him in this wonderfully illustrated tale.
Many
more great titles are available at the CFL. Come peruse our new book section
for recent bestsellers or search our catalog at enterprise.ncls.org.
